Unstoppable Robot Ninja

District 9

Hadn’t heard of this one: a new feature-length film by Neill Blomkamp, the guy behind the (slightly silly) Landfall shorts. You can see a lot of overlap between this and his earlier short, Alive in Joburg, which I highly recommend. I eat this CG verité shit up with a spoon, people.

Man, I can’t wait.

Ooooo… I’m actually a huge fan of the “Landfall” shorts simply because they do CGI verité about a million times better than anything else I’ve seen, and this looks even better. It’ll be interesting to see if he can as deftly stretch the short’s premise out to a whole movie.

Totally. I should probably clarify my “slightly silly” comment: I love the effects and the pacing of “Landfall”, but the dialogue and weird intro filters felt way too Michael Bay to me.

If you haven’t seen it, Blomkamp’s Tempbot is also worth your precious time. Not least because it has a cameo with Lynda Frickin’ Carter™.
