This website is, sadly, defunct. But! Ethan’s new website is here for you to use.

Unstoppable Robot Ninja

The site navigation:

You’re a handsome devil. What’s your name?

Well, here we go. I’m not sure whether I should laugh, cry, or hunt for a champagne bottle that I can break against the bow of my new website’s server. Maybe I’ll just have a good sob while shotgunning the bottle. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

This site’s been a long time coming. A long, long time. What started off in January as an attempt to redesign my old site quickly turned into a multi-month marathon of discarded comps, hastily scribbled-out sketches, and ultimately the realization that redesigning—hell, even writing on sidesh0w came with a fair amount of overhead. Ultimately, I decided that after a few years of years of explaining to folks that “it’s not a ‘O’, it’s a zero”, that maybe it was time for something new. Which of course necessitated another few months of discarded comps, late nights cursing at Photoshop, wash, rinse, repeat.

And so here we are. It’s great to have you.

I would ask that you bear with me over the next few days: the site’s very much browseat emptor at the moment. A few features are as yet unfinished, a few others still need sanding down. If you see anything odd, I’d love it if you dropped me a line.

Assuming, of course, that the email form works. Karma’s a bitch.

Any site with Boba Fett in the mast is worth the wait.

  2. The Robot says:

    Mo’ Fett, mo’ betta.

  3. Christopher Schmitt says:

Glad to finally find out what all that beeping was all about!

    Congrats on launching!

  4. Anton says:

I believe that three bottles should be in order:
One, to smash against the bow. Two, to shotgun while sobbing. Three, to smash against the bow (in case you forget after {two} how much fun it was to smash something).

Cheers amigo. You are (still) an inspiration.

  5. Luke Dorny (luxuryluke) says:

Yes, anything with Ghost In The Shell references, et al, will certainly get my attention and a few shekkels.

Will you be selling action figures, too?
Do you have a paypal link?

  6. Garrett Murray says:

    Just absolutely fantastic.

  7. Patrick Haney says:

This site is hot like an oven full of robot ninja parts. Great work, Ethan. I totally dig the robot ninja guy you created, among other things.

Now when are you going to take a break from all the design so I can hit you with a beer somewhere in Cambridge?

  8. Jack Auses says:

Holy Mother of Megaman! Fantastic. Wicked pissa!

  9. Brian Warren says:

Well done! Mighty good fresh start. The internets (all of them) are better off with the robot back blogging.

  10. Dale Cruse says:

    Looks great, Ethan!

  11. Jason Santa Maria says:

    Lovely!

  12. Brendan says:

Marvellous. What more needs be said?

  13. patricia says:

    Beautiful.

Only one question: And the pirates would be where?? Don’t tell me there are no pirates!

Also, I tried sending an email via the contact form and got a “template isn’t available” (paraphrased cuz I can’t remember the exact words) message after hitting submit.

  14. Question.. says:

What’s the font used in your header image for this post “You’re a handsome devil…” ?

  15. The Robot says:

Rockstars. Each and every one of you.

LuxuryLuke, no PayPal links yet. I like to think that I’m my Own Best Action Figure™.

Patricia, good catch on the contact form. I knew that was an issue, but I’m still looking into it. The feedback’s most appreciated, though—bulletins as they happen.

Question.., it’s Hoefler & Frere-Jones' oh-so-goddamned-sexy Whitney. There’s some more information about the various bits and bobs at work on The ‘Bot in the About section, if you’re at all interested.

  16. Drew McLellan says:

    Lovely, lovely work, sire.

  17. Ryan Brill says:

    Nice! I like.

  18. Joshua Lane says:

Looks great, Ethan! And I love that the robot blinks.

  19. Keith LaFerriere says:

You are a giant rock star. Nice work.

  20. Dan Mall says:

Just because you can make a good-looking, elastic, liquid site with sIFR that wraps doesn’t mean you’re better than us. Hmph.

  21. Scott Nelle says:

I love the way the masthead background moves behind the changing headers. I’ve spent several minutes refreshing and resizing. Some of the transparency effects are extremely cool (Mr. Robot, for example.)

  22. Kirk says:

    A double huzzah for you!

  23. Rob Weychert says:

Sweeeet. Although I’m willing to bet that robot ninja could be stopped. Perhaps with germs. Excellent work (minus the germ vulnerability)!

  24. The Robot says:

The hell, Rob. Germs are your answer for everything.

  25. Bronwyn Jones says:

    The Robot totally fucking blinks.

I don’t know how your brain works, but the first chance I get, I’m gonna shoot you with a tranquilizer dart and add it to my, ahem, collection.

The whole of England must be searching for you, you say? Sooner or later they’re going to find you, you say? Never. Because you see, they’re looking for you alright, but nobody’s looking for me…

  26. Rémi Prévost says:

Nice robot. Nice use of sIFR. Nice dark hues. Nice backgrounds. Nice elastic-liquid design.

    Well, it’s nice. :)
